Nel 2012 il cimitero cittadino di Pirano ha celebrato il suo 200° anniversario e il 150° anniversario della dedicazione della chiesa e dell'atrio del cimitero.
Il cimitero di Pirano non è solo il luogo di sepoltura dei piranesi, ma anche un luogo di memoria e di ricco patrimonio storico e culturale.
Il cimitero sorge in una magnifica posizione che offre una vista che spazia dall’Adriatico settentrionale fino al Tricorno, a nord-ovest su gran parte dell’Italia fino a Venezia e a sud sulla Croazia.
Ci troviamo al crocevia di tre Paesi, cosa che si riflette anche nelle lapidi che testimoniano il legame tra le tre culture anche oltre la vita terrena. La storia della città di Pirano è scritta in questo luogo.
